Turbo Blanket Smoke and Stench

I've used similar material to wrap headers. Usually about a week of driving and it goes away.

What is on them to cause that? I can see why anotero would be concerned if he didn't know it would do that. I would have been too.

I read a long time ago about the smoking, but still wanted to get some input. Despite the fact that I never saw any oil around my turbo, it is a rather unsettling experience. :)

Basically, yes.

1. To do this at the factory would require another piece of costly equipment (raises price to consumer).
2. Heating and cooling will cause the blanket to change shape to what it's wrapped around. Lying in an oven will deform it and possibly not make it fit or harder to install.
3. The fumes are probably not great for the environment. Heating a whole batch would probably get the EPA all up in your anus (raises price to consumer).

Turbo blanket just got really expensive.
