There were more when I posted that, but shsn't production been stopped due to the chip shortage? We're talking about a Z51 Corvette, not a Z06 or ZR1. Historically there's been no real markup on a base model Corvette outside of the first model year and even then, $10k would be a large markup outside of all but a few markets. You can make a $100k base model if you throw every option at one and pay a little markup, but I'd guess that there haven't been more than a dozen six figure base Corvettes and obviously none of them will ever approach that value on the used market.

I'm sure someone has paid $40k for a GTI or $50k for an R, but paying a price for a new car certainly doesn't set you up well for the flip side. We've been shopping Macans and Porsche options are laughable, especially given that they really don't retain any of that value second hand. Having the air suspension and torque vectoring LSD make it easier to sell one quickly, but they don't appear to add any resale value.

There is no Z06 or ZR1 available yet for the C8 so you really only have the trim levels within the standard model. Not surprisingly all the ones listed with a price were the 1LT.

I don't think you've been looking at C8's if you don't think there's been a markup on them, there are used models of the C8 selling for $80k (the ones that were $69k new).

*edit* Looks like out of those 6, only 1 C8 is actually on the dealer's site

Classic Chevy has 2 listed, they're both sold - https://www.classicchevrolet.com/Ve...ew&minYear=2021&make=Chevrolet&model=Corvette
Allen Gwyn has 1 listed, it's sold/not available - https://www.lovemychevy.com/VehicleSearchResults?search=new&minYear=2021&make=Chevrolet
Covina has 1 listed, but don't have the price on their website - https://www.covinahillschevrolet.co...utm_medium=referral&utm_source=cars.com#close
Greenwood has 1 listed, it's sold/not available - https://www.greenwoodchevrolet.com/searchnew.aspx
Bob Johnson has 1 listed, it appears to be available - https://www.rjchevrolet.com/Vehicle...plink&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=cars.com

Ding, ding, ding. I wouldn't ever look at an automatic car. But my old commute took me past one of the largest Corvette dealers in the country, and the non Z cars were always on discount. Not saying that's the case this very minute, but buying a base model weeks from the Z06 release would be pretty daft. The current market pricing is skewed because of the chip shortage and production idling, of course there's a premium at this very instant, there's no supply. But that will change shortly, and with the Z06 coming out, dealer markups will shift to that model, and many dealers don't charge them in the first place. It's not a rare or special car, a Corvette at a markup is just dumb.

Chevy has confirmed that the new Corvette Z06 will debut October 26

In a thread discussing C8 versus Golf R why would we be discussing old models?

Of course there are tons of C5, C6, and C7 cars for under $70k, the $100k comment that was quoted was for C8's

Well technically, there is no Golf R, so what are we discussing again? There are still only a handful of six figure C8's out there, and that's an asking price, not an actual negotiated sales price. Calling a C8 a $100k car is like calling an M3 an $120k car just because one has actually been sold at that price.

I'm thoroughly confused with your thought process here.

Thread title - C8 or 2022 Golf R

There are a *ton* of six-figure C8's out there for sale, as in, I don't even think you bothered looking before making that statement. There are 879 C8 over $100k on cars.com

https://www.cars.com/shopping/resul...ck_type=all&year_max=&year_min=2020&zip=23249

There are only 358 less than $100k

https://www.cars.com/shopping/resul...ck_type=all&year_max=&year_min=2020&zip=23249

And if we drop that to less than $90k that number drops to 82 matches.

https://www.cars.com/shopping/resul...ck_type=all&year_max=&year_min=2020&zip=23249

So there are 1,155 C8's over $90k for sale on cars.com nationwide and 82 less than $90k.

I think that's more than a handful.

*edit* And as shown two posts ago here out of the ones listed at less than $70k (6 total) only 1 was actually available. So the vehicles less than $90k are likely even less than the 82.

Yeah, cool. I don't care. Why anyone would pay six figures for that car is beyond me, but hey, if the market supports it, cool.

Is there an option for body colored trim now on C8s? Notably around the side air intakes.

Yes, side vents, rear grills and front grill splitters...
