How important is form factor to you? From the options you have listed, I think you don't really care much about space or number of doors. In that case, why don't you consider the BR-Z or FR-S (if you can get your hands on one)?

I've driven a rental Ford Focus and there is really nothing nice about it. I'll say the Chevy Cruze is better than the Focus.

The Euro model is facelifted from the last Passat, but this US model is totally new. I feel that the front end looks so nice on the Scirocco and Golf when it is sleek and sharp, but it doesn't look very good when they fatten it up for the Jetta & Passat.

Yes that is correct. And after spending all that money, the highway speed limit is ~50 mph, and most roads are ~30 mph; add the traffic, and there is essentially no road worth driving a GTI on.
