Early days for me with the etsi but seems as good on fuel as my previous mk7.5 1.5 manual which I got around 55 on a long run and even saw a best figure of 63.
Probably averaged around 47/48.
I did read that the mk 8 manual 1.5 150 does slightly better than the auto?

1.5 150 manual, getting pretty much same, "Close to 60 mpg on a UK motorway", drops to 35-40 around town, with hugely annoying (to me) stop/start disabled on each start up by the way so could poss achieve a few more mpgs....

with eTSI you can have +50NM electric help in town... alslo start/stop is very fine, because it is not started by startermotor... it started by generator ;) I have now 18500km and never disabled start/stop.

I too average around 60 mpg on motorway in summer with climate control off (once managed 64) else about 53 mpg with climate control on in summer doing 70 mph. Other roads around 50-53 but around 35-40 around town. My eTSI has only done around 7,000 miles but doubt I will get more as mileage increases.

Overall average over first 1,200 miles from new 51mpg.

A typical daily average 50 mpg (~20 mile, not motorway).
Short run (<5 miles) 40mpg.

On a good (~200+ mile) motorway run 67mpg.

1.5 eTSI 150 R-Line

It's better than the two diesels I've owned, and better than our Mini Cooper. All done in Comfort mode, some use of ACC on the longer runs.
On a run the engine seems to be totally off for about 50% of the time on the downhill sections of motorways.
I don't drive quickly! Vast majority of mileage on 30 to 40mph roads.

My overall average of 51 miles per UK gallon equates to roughly 42 miles per US gallon, so not far removed from your overall 38.
