Call Of Duty: Black Ops 9.11.2010

Ill Keep This Thread Updated Whenever Possible
------------------------------------
30.April 2010:

Call of Duty 7: Black Ops (CoD7) is the next game in the massive Call of Duty (CoD) franchise. In a recent report on Tek9, Activision shared some details about the new CoD game.

Black Ops is scheduled for release in November 2010 and sources indicate the game developed by Treyarch will be set in history, between World War II and present day. It is also hinted that some of the missions will take gamers to Cuba and South America which hints at a Cold War and Vietnam based game.

In true Modern Warfare style, gamers will reportedly get a chance to play as a member of the Special Air Service (SAS) in which players will be involved in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy during the 1980’s.

The game is also hinted to feature the popular “zombie mode” where players will get to gun down forces of zombies which was made popular in Call of Duty: World at War.

For South African PC gamers and worldwide PC gamers alike, CoD7 is set to feature dedicated servers. Gamers across the world should put their hands together for Activision who seem to be weeding out the problems with previous titles by re-adding dedicated servers to the franchise.

"... With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."

David Vonderhaar is the Multiplayer Design Director for the new CoD title and he posted some information in a thread on Killstreak Rewards; he primarily wanted the readers to understand that Treyarch does indeed listen to their fans. A Call of Duty in Vietnam summary of comments made by Vonderhaar - also known as Vahn - about the multiplayer details. Vonderhaar wrote :

"I am seeing a lot of what I would call the “echo plex.” As fans of the previous games, we have drawn a lot of the same conclusions that many of you are drawing. Solutions to those problems may be different than any specific proposal in any specific post, but I’m glad we (generally speaking) want to go the same direction you want us to go."

  • While they’ve tried having custom killstreaks for each class, that seemed to complicate the ‘purity and speed’ of Create a Class.
  • Consequently, it’s fair to assume that customizable killstreaks are all but confirmed.
  • At this stage in development, killstreaks stack and carry over if you die, but do not contribute to further killstreaks (hence eliminating the ‘camping for killstreaks’ problem of Modern Warfare 2).
  • Treyarch are not fans of Commando, the extended melee range perk in Modern Warfare 2, and it is unlikely to return.
  • They’ve tried a ‘manned’ version of the Sentry Gun killstreak, but weren’t fans.
  • We may well see a return to pistols as the only available sidearm, or perhaps a choice between pistols and launchers. Vahn and many of the team are not fans of shotguns and machine pistols as secondary weapons – it gives a player ‘too much firepower’.
  • The knife may well become a secondary weapon – although Vahn didn’t want to say too much.
  • Finally, don’t expect the nuke to return as a killstreak. Vahn says they are not fans of a game-ending killstreak.

Derived from the designer's statements, one could potentially draw some conclusions They appear to have contemplated - and passed on - the idea of class-specific Killstreaks, they don't seem to have a high opinion of Commando, the extended melee range perk in Modern Warfare 2, and they do like the idea of returning to pistols as the only available sidearm (or perhaps we'll be given a choice between pistols and launchers). Lastly, they say the nuke might not return as a Killstreak; Vonderhaar says they're not fans of a game-ending Killstreak.

If you have any suggestions for the multiplayer aspect of CoD7, feel free to let Treyarch know... they're not kidding about listening to gamers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer information is, not surprisingly, thin on the ground at this early stage in development. But if you were to scour the official World at War forums you’d be able to find some interesting multiplayer titbits (if you looked hard enough).

Treyarch’s Multiplayer Design Director, David Vonderhaar, frequents the CoD forums and has left some interesting nuggets of Black Ops multiplayer details amongst his posts. Some of the details Vonderhaar talks about strongly suggests that the firm will ditch a lot of the imbalances of MW2 multiplayer.

absolutely stoked for this. i am convinced Treyarch will come off their last lukewarm reaction with the opinion that they will actually need to work to produce a good game, not sellout like IW. also glad they will listen to the community, hope some people come up with great ideas

I loathe the other Treyarch CODs so I am not pumped for this one in the least. Oh and yeah, where the fuck is the map pack!?

Wikipedia says tomorrow for the map pack which would be super.
