The mk2 16v GTI is cool for sure and in some circles is considered the best GTI. The guy that won the auction has also bid on and won 2 other mk2 GTIs.
I guess he really wanted one badly.
My sister had an 89 Talon. Unfortunately not a tsi. I remember spending like 30 min in a Stealth & 3000GT (shopped for Eclipse & Talon) in the showroom until they kicked me out of it.

There's gotta be more to that one. It's more fucked up than we can tell.

Looks like he took care of it mechanically. Some of the oil changes are a little too far apart for me, but he could've been doing his own in between.

Between the "might be" hail damage on the carfax, damage to the skirts, the poor attempt at removing whatever wing he had on there, the paint swirl, and still owing on a loan it'd be a big nope from me.

It's not too far off from others I've seen with similar mileage.

They're starting to come down in price a bit.

MK8's in my area, not so much...

GTIs didn't get the 7spd DSG until 2019 for some reason.

That things history though...Before 10k miles it had multiple tires replaced and rebalanced, the transmission was removed and reinstalled, it got 2 new drive shaft seals, and then it was bought back as a lemon. Then it's got a weird history on the carfax making it look like it was showing back up at the same dealer every year. Maybe it never sold and this dude in Miami has been using it as a "dealer demo" since 2022.

Now it's going to a california dealer.

A car being from miami is a deal breaker by itself.
