Cloning Electronic Key Fobs

The Fed

Old Guys Rule
Experts warn thieves are stealing vehicles by cloning electronic key fobs. "It's as simple as walking to your front door, seeing if they're able to capture a signal of a key fob that might be inside," Bryan Gast of the Insurance Bureau of Canada tells the CBC. He suggests keeping key fobs far from the front door or in a metallic box that blocks radio frequencies.

I’ve read a few news articles of this happening. They “wardrive” around neighborhoods searching for rfid signals. If you amplify the signal from the key they trick the car into thinking that it’s in proximity or even inside. Start the car and drive off.
A faraday bag is enough to stop the keys from transmitting their signal into the air.
