Thank you again. It has been a really rough few days, but I feel like the worst of it is passed. We got his remains home yesterday, so now I'm mostly relieved that he will be with us forever. It still feels weird to come home and not have him greet me. Some of the small things trigger the sadness... My other dog liked to drop nuggets out on the floor so Bane could come through and eat them. I keep stepping on random nuggets on the floor, and the tears follow.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that we'll be in your position soon as well. That splenic cancer is really nasty stuff - our dog's cancer is back even after 5 rounds of chemo. She's now on oral chemo and still doing fine, but we're monitoring her very carefully to see if she is looking the least bit uncomfortable. So far, so good. Next week is the next blood test to see where her red blood count is.

On a positive side, the new meds (Palladia and the ulcer meds along with the Yunnan Baiyao coagulant supplement) doesn't seem to bother her at all and she's getting better stuff to eat - probably better that we are getting.

always a tough time.

feels for you and family (includes dog)
Thanks. Yeah, dogs really suck you in and like King noted, you've got to focus on the dog's quality of life - and not let her suffer.

So she just had a half pound of fresh pet, a steakumm, a piece of rotisserie chicken, a slice of roast beef, some rice and a sprinkle of Nutra kibble for crunch on top.

Me? I'm having a TB bean burrito. I stop eating when I'm stressed.

We'll, she just had her last yogurt with a beef jerky this morning. She was perfectly fine last night, and we changed our Thanksgiving plans so she wouldn't be in boarding that day but would go with us.

At four this morning, she came limping into our bedroom and whined to out. We took her out, she did her business and laid down under a tree. We took her to the vet who verified that she had internal bleeding.

I had grabbed a small tub of yogurt before we left and she had that while she got her shot. This is the first time that I've seen my Marine wife cry in 25 years - that made me get all bleary eyed too.

It had been a crappy year.

I'm so sorry CB. It sounds like you did everything you could to keep her healthy and happy, so I'm certain you gave her a full, happy life.

Thanks. You know all too well how it feels.

Now we have to go and find another. We had decided to wait as the screwed up one had a vet visit just as ours was having an appointment too, but by then he was adopted already, but apparently in discussions of bringing him back.

This is a picture of ours two days ago. She looks (and acted) perfectly fine.

good looking dog. I admit to being a Shepard fan but often they don't like dogs, my current lab/whippet mix loves dogs. That is way better

Yes. She loved people - as long as she saw that we were OK with them - and was the only dog I can think of that would allow you to take food out of her mouth and all she would do is give you a sad look. She knew it was for a good reason and that she'd get something better,

She did not like other dogs though - that was her only downside.

Sorry for your loss. These little things really burrow themselves into our lives and leave a mark.

Mine’s just started new medicine, hoping to get the balance right, but also realize her time isn’t unlimited, something that hasn’t seemed so apparent until this came about.

We unexpectedly had to let go of our sweet baby boy Apollo yesterday

I’m so sorry for both of you….these pups are such a part of not only your life but a part of your hearts. Heart breaking
