Experience with radar detectors?

It's only illegal if you get caught :iono:
Yes true but it's getting easier to catch you. They now use Radar Detector Detectors to detect the microwave frequencies emitted by most Radar Detectors thyats how they got me. The cop played me as well, turning on his unit to see what actions I took, before he stopped me.

Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and on military installations, unless you're driving a commercial vehicle. Waze is great, use it all the time, but it's only as good as the other users make it. I have a Beltronics RX-65 that I bought 6 years ago. It's old but it works; Ka detection is great. Only tickets I've had were when I was driving a different car and didn't have it, and the last one in my car was laser July 2015.

Some states will try to get you for having it in the windshield. I'm using a regular suction cup mount right behind my rearview because I'm too cheap to get a Blendmount. I have it hardwired (as well as my dash cams) into rear wiper power so it turns on with the ignition. Still, you cannot get a ticket specifically for having a radar detector unless you're in VA or you're driving a commercial truck over 10,000lb.

Does Valentine still make a hidden detector?

Hidden as in you can't pick it up with a radar detector detector? The new Gen 2 Valentine is. Gen 1 can be picked up by a RDD.

No hidden as it's mounted where it can't be seen on the windshield or mirror.

Oh, no not really. I mean you can mount it on the visor or close to the headliner and it be almost hidden. I have seen visor mounts that look like the old CD holders that hide it well. There are other companies that make ones that go into the bumper and integrate into the car more.

Thanks. I thought Valentine used to have one. I'm familiar with the hidden one that Escort has and it's junk. Far too many false alerts.

Yeah some detectors are better at filtering out junk. My Valentine Gen 1 is not the greatest as it is on the older side now but I bought a bluetooth dongle for it so I can connect it to a 3rd party app. The app allows for GPS lockouts along with speed muting so it really helped quiet it down.
