Whenever a cop tell you anything take it with a grain of salt. It doesn't matter what the Cop says. The law is the law. The judge determines your fate. If the cop is misinformed the law still applies. If a judge wants to give you points he will.

Bump on this topic.
I recently checked my driving record and I did get 1 point off from this ticket.
It's been more than 5 months since I got cited.
What can I do to fight old speeding ticket?
CHP clearly said it won't affect driving record and I asked him twice more to make it sure.
If i knew it would deduct point, I would have taken traffic school.
Any info will be appreciated.

Nothing you can do, as others said you will get a point on your ticket for a moving violation like a speeding ticket. If he said otherwise is your worse against his and unfortunately you will lose 100% of the time.

Welcome to California, just be lucky it was only one ticket.

I've gotten a speeding ticket in my ex-girlfriends town in New Jersey and the ticket never showed on my record. $108 dollars 55 in a 40 on some back roads. Maybe the cop is telling the truth but I'd be cautious...

Side note: After the 1st speeding ticket, I got a radar detector and it has paid itself off since.

The joys of living in a town with an understaffed police force! :D

Always fight tickets. Always. I've never fought a ticket without successfully having the tickets lowered to some non-point violation. They got their money, albeit a little less than the original ticket, and I always walked away with no points or insurance increases.

Of course, you have to go into the situation looking respectable and be courteous and respectful to everyone. Talk to the cop beforehand and just be upfront about it. Say "I'm not denying what I did, I'm just looking to reduce points" and it usually works in your favor.

I can't stress enough how having a good radar detector can save your butt. But get a good one. Those $39 cheap-o's will go off if someone farts near it and soon you won't trust it leading to ignoring it altogether.

Here in Utah if you are on the freeway and it's under 10mph over they call it a "excessive gas consumption" ticket and no points show up. So when I get a ticket on the freeway I always go in and see if they will drop it to 9 over. They have every time if you go in and are curteous and honest about things as TheDude4Bides also stated. I haven't had one in a looooong time though due to having good radar protection...

my radar detector hasnt saved me much. in the last YEAR, i have been alerted to a speed trap on side of the road maybe twice. what i value it more for is knowledge of CHP on the highway. It is much better at seeing those a couple miles ahead, as most of them run with Ka radar permanently on in their cars. you know there is a cop around, you don't go hot rodding the freeway. all my Ka false alerts (always on the bridge i drive daily) are immediately fast beeps maximum. The difference is when it detects a cop, it starts slow, and gets faster and faster. I don't know why the bridge gives so many false alarms.

whaddya mean??? You've gotten tix with the radar detector installed???

Or you are just saying' that your "spidey sense" is just as good and the radar is just to hear beeps or something?

just means i havent come across 10 or more speed traps over the whole year. i have passed maybe 2-3 speed traps in the last 1-2 years, and it caught all of those.

it barely ever activates. and it creates a nice blind spot right in the middle of my windsheild. yet i keep it on for the freeway detections i mentioned...

So in summary, your radar detector has false alarms, misses traps that you were lucky enough to not be speeding by, and causes a blind spot. The only good it does is let you know that CHP is either somewhere ahead or behind you on the road, so it's best to chill.

Gotcha. What model?

Mine has the occasional false alarm but you soon learn where those areas are. I can kill the X band on mine for either highway or city which is almost always what my false alarms are. Cops here use Ka or laser.

I can't tell you how many times mine has alerted me to a nearby cop running radar which prompted me to slow down and therefore not get pulled over. I don't drive 100mph everywhere I go but here guys frequently get pulled over for 15 over. Better safe than sorry! Oh, mine is hardwired and attached to my rear view mirror so it's not in the way at all.

it's never missed a trap that i saw on the road. we just don't have that many traps around here. this is a cheapo $350 Escort Solo S3.
