Welcome and beautiful car. Proper transmission and seat choice 🤘.Great car for your son to learn on. My son is only 3 but as soon as he can reach the pedals he is a getting a manual transmission lesson.

I'm slowing convincing my dad who is about to retire to get a GTI as his "last car" as he puts it. He has always wanted one since he auto crossed with his Escort but was worried about reliability. I told him not to worry with the newer ones and I'll work on it and he can borrow my MK6.

Thank you @GolNat! You have a lucky son!

My son (nearly 13) is completely car-obsessed. This purchase was a big deal for both of us. I’m hoping the GTI helps keep us close through his teen years. He wants to autocross and race when he is old enough and this should be a good platform for us to share.

I love how our stories mirror each other, you and your dad and son, me and my son, all connecting over our cars.

See you at a track somewhere! 😀

Hi GTI fans,

Excited to join the forum and learn from y'all! I have a lovely and lucky history with GTIs that I hope can continue for years to come :)

Pictured below is my first GTI, a lovely Tornado Red MK6, on a makeshift skid pad for a defensive driving course. She's the product of my mom looking around the used VW lot and thinking it was so much cuter than the Jetta we were originally looking at! Plus my dad and I appreciated the extra fun factor (and horsepower). She stayed with me for many great years of lengthy commutes around the NYC metro area (worst was round trip 86 miles/day), only suffering a minor fender bender that left the rear bumper with some barely visible scratches. She moved on to her new owner spring 2019 with just a bit over 115k miles if I recall correctly.

The next beauty to enter the ring was my gorgeous, 0% APR, southern belle, 2020 GTI that I got when I moved in June 2020. I then proceeded to work from home for months and barely took her anywhere but the grocery store and a few day trips to go hiking/sightseeing. Below is a great pic I got last fall when I visited North Carolina.

Then, disaster strikes. I have to start going into the office regularly the Monday after the Superbowl and in the home stretch, less than 1 mile from my office, she is totaled. I started to make a left turn when the the light turned green and BAM! pickup truck hits the drivers side after running a red light, I spin a full 180 and my day/week/month is ruined. To add insult to injury, ABBA is still playing on Apple carplay. I was luckily not badly injured, just a few scrapes and some bruises, and owe it to my previously beautiful car. Insurance estimates $20k worth of damage and declares it a total loss with only 2,700 miles on the odometer. Someone bought her at a Coparts auction though!! If you're on this forum and attempting to fix her let me know!

Finally the thrilling final update, I spent 7 hours at the VW dealer I bought my 2020 from and negotiated a reasonably good deal on another GTI. I am much more careful at that intersection (well all intersections) now even if it means someone honks at me for daring to take a second after the light turns green. Below is my new love in Dark Iron Blue on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Here's to safe driving for all and many happy years of ownership!!

New member here. I have recently purchased Volkswagen Golf Mk8 and it is the best one I had so far. It runs so smooth! Keep safe everyone. I am glad to have found this community.

Greetings to all you Golf lovers and GTI fans. Still fresh in America since I've moved into Florida from Europe with my family 2 months ago. EUROguy & still attached to EUROwagen. :)
Bought my '10 GTI from my best friend here in FL & with all the mods already attached. Lot's of mods and I guess I still don't know for quite a few of them. But I know this (what I can see) - perfect working condition, boosted (around 450 HP I think), bagged with Air Lift Performance V2, lots of REVO and Forged Motorsport parts, 18" 0.06, Nitto rubbers, Willwood 6 piston big brake kit, few CF parts, digital vent V3 multi-gauge, loud stero system,...

Plans - Red Braum Falcon R seats, redo the trunk to make it clean, roll cage (since we bought a family car for my wife),...
