Golf 1.5 eTSI Style edition here. Got the Emergency SOS and Travel Assist Errors and decided to take it in. They told me that the car needs a new steering wheel and that they will change it for free.

Just wanted to ask though. Has VW managed to fix these problems with the new steering wheels or is there a chance that the same errors will pop-up again in the future ? I'm kind of worried because I'm already in my 4th year of warranty and I only have 1 more. I would hate to have to these problems when I'm out of warranty and I'm considering selling the car for this reason.
3rd steering wheel for me for free...

I have loved vw golf for 35 years, but they have never made mistakes like the mk8
I agree with you to the point that I have just ordered a fully loaded 8.5 GTI, I really like my current 8 GTI, but I just don’t have any confidence in it any more, and as it’s coming up to the end of the warranty period, it seemed to be time to pull the trigger.

I downloaded the VAG Flashdaten file dated 2024.07.03. In this link it says the zip file should include another zip file titled 3G8919360AQ.zip (which is the 1989 update for Golf 8, I'm reliably informed), but once you unzip the file, all the Zip files mentioned in the link above are missing. Any idea why? This is the download link for the Zip file that's supposed to contain the update. It's pretty large and takes 8 hours to download.

Help Requested. I have my multimedia working on software 1969 and it functions super responsive and am very happy with it. However after a 10 minute drive and also if the car has been in the sun, the screen no longer responds my touches. So while driving the screen does work (view), only I can't control anything with it (no response on touch). When I turn off the car and everything has cooled down, the screen works fine again. I would like to replace the display 5H0919605B with a new one. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Thank you.

Weird question, but does updating the firmware to 1969 affect the way your car is registered with the VIN? Yesterday when I looked at the VW recalls site, my VIN was searchable, but today after doing the update it says the VIN is incorrect. Also the image of the car that appears in the MY VW app is gone and will not load. Have I done something wrong?

Just let it sleep for a night
I did and nothing changed the MYVW app and the website still does not show a picture of my car. It is a strange thing to worry about I know, but I cannot get it out of my head that somehow I have messed up my VIN and now the car is no longer registered...

Are you signed up and logged into an active We Connect Plus account? And if so have you applied that account to the car as a primary user?

Yeah I am, and it took another day, not sure what happened but it solved itself. First time I have owned a car that gets updates like this so it threw me. And doing it myself I was worrying too much. Sorry.

That’s great, and at least it’s now working. I seem to remember I had something similar when I first got my Mk8.

This VW OTA updating is news to me since I have a MK7. So does it use the CAR-NET comm to do them?

VW uses the internal eSIM in the Mk8 to transfer OTA updates, CAR-NET has been superseded by We Connect and We Connect Plus in later Golfs (after 2021MY i think), basically since the Mk8.
