I have a 2020 VW Golf eTSI. Purchased from VW dealership. Miles are19000 miles. Full VW dealership service history. I am second owner. Owned car for just over 12 months. Recent side assist warning on dash and subsequent alarm came up. Asked supplying VW dealer to check it out and was advised that defect was due to a rear end shunt, so no work via warranty. I have not had a rear end shunt, or a bump, or any hits, swipes or other minor contact.
No marks at all can be seen on rear bumper. Dealer gave me a name of a body shop, for me to ask them to remove bumper and check out the rear sensors.
I have read earlier posts on mk 8 VW Golf side assist errors and i can see these errors are a repeated post.
My question is, as a non mechanic or body shop expert, how, as just a driver can I question what my VW dealership is telling me.
Apologies if the object of my post re: side assist errors, is repetitive as I can see that that is.
As car is still under VW used car warranty, I am unsure where to go as VW dealership has advised it is not their problem.

Loss or damage due to any type of accident is an exclusion in VW’s Approved Used warranty, so it’s this exclusion that the dealer is relying on to reject your potential warranty claim.

If you‘re confident your car hasn’t ever had a rear end shunt or sustained any damage through minor impacts (e.g. by parking manoeuvres of other careless drivers in a supermarket car park) then I’d be challenging the dealer to show you the evidence that there has been rear end damage. Usually, there’ll be some small tell-tale signs of repairs that have been carried out - sometimes extremely difficult to spot if repairs are of a very high standard. If the dealer isn’t able - or prepared - to do this, then that suggests they’re just trying to fob you off, in which case I’d be trying a different VW dealer (you don’t have to use the dealer you bought the car from) to get your side assist issue fixed.

Good luck 🤞 - I hope you get this resolved to your satisfaction. Please update this discussion topic with developments and the outcome for the benefit of other forum members.
