The APR Stage 3 PowerMax GT2563S Turbocharger System for the MK8 Golf R / S3 / Arteon Platform is a direct bolt-on upgrade that includes a Garrett turbocharger, installation kit, and APR software upgrade. This system delivers an impressive 478-543 HP and 409-435 FBLBS of torque, depending on octane level. Designed to maximize power with just an intake and intercooler, it requires no additional hardware.



The Garrett PowerMax GT2563S Turbocharger provides a 20% increase in compressor flow and a 37% increase in turbine flow compared to the factory Continental turbocharger, all within a direct replacement bolt-on package. The turbine wheel, made from a Mar-M alloy rated for 1050°C, ensures the system can operate under extreme conditions without compromising reliability.



The kit includes an upgrade to APR Stage 3 software from a lower stage, designed to achieve the specified power levels with only the intake and intercooler system. There is no need for additional, costly, or emissions-impacting exhaust systems, fueling modifications, or sensors at this power level.



The horsepower and torque gains achieved with this turbocharger upgrade are substantial. APR's calibration engineering experts dedicated months to fine-tuning the Stage 3 Pmax engine and transmission software to provide an exceptional driving experience without imposing undue risk on your engine's lifespan. The software is available in both high and low torque configurations to respect transmission limits when additional upgrades, such as our Stage 3 TCU upgrade, are not feasible. While the turbocharger is capable of higher low-end torque, prioritizing engine reliability necessitates discipline. Our software delivers a smooth, linear torque curve across both configurations and various octane levels, ensuring an exhilarating drive without placing undue stress on engine components.



In designing this upgrade, our team meticulously adhered to Garrett's prescribed specifications for turbocharger reliability, including exhaust gas temperature and turbocharger shaft speed limits. Additionally, the software is calibrated to operate within the limits of factory sensors and fueling hardware, delivering a dependable driving experience.

APR's calibration experts have also integrated additional safety and protection protocols into the ECU to guard against LSPI, knock, turbo shaft speed, exhaust gas temperature, turbo discharge temperature, exhaust back pressure, and fuel system limits. This ensures that drivers can fully enjoy their vehicle's performance without undue concern for premature component failure. We’re excited to announce APR Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 software updates are now available for 2.0T EA888.4 engines found in vehicle such as the MK8 GTI, Golf R, 8Y S3, and Arteon! With this latest update, you can achieve full torque on DSG-equipped vehicles without the need for a TCU upgrade! This update applies to North America with ROW market vehicles, including other makes and models, updating in the coming weeks.

Previously, a TCU upgrade was necessary to reach maximum torque. However, our new update provides additional coding to the ECU, eliminating this requirement. Rest assured, the ECU and TCU continue to work in harmony, accurately calculating engine load and torque to ensure smooth gear shifts and the proper clutch pressure needed to hold torque.

For GTI (245 HP) platforms you can now install the latest high-torque software. Adding our TCU upgrade, if available, will further enhance your driving experience and deliver faster acceleration. Our own 0-60 testing saw a further .16s reduction taking our Stage 3 E85 equipped GTI from 5.12 seconds down to 4.96 on the street with the TCU added!

For Golf R, S3, and Arteon (280-333 HP) platforms even more options are available. By installing the highest torque software, you can instantly unlock maximum torque. For an even more exhilarating experience, consider adding our TCU upgrade, if available, with the TCU specific high-torque file. This offers further enhancements, particularly to launch control, which requires the TCU to be safely unlocked. Our own 0-60 testing saw a further .94s reduction taking our Stage 3 104 AKI equipped Golf R from 4.25 seconds down to 3.31 seconds on the street with the TCU added! Manual transmission customers seeking maximum performance in all scenarios should also install the TCU-specific high torque software.

All of these updates apply to version 1.2.2 and higher on each stage and platform. North American software will be ready by this evening, September the 20th, 2024 with ROW files to be announced separately. As always, APR’s software enhancements are available at no extra cost to existing customers!

Any plans to sell a kit to adapt this or the Mk8 GTI powermax to the EA888.3? I'm told that Garrett fixed some of the issues with the Mk7 powermax with the Mk8, but it seems like an extensive, untested conversion.

There are some pieces that wouldn't bolt on (e.g. the Evo4 has an extra support bracket to the head, which I don't think the gen3 has a hole for), but the two main things are the diverter valve and downpipe flange. That kit solves the DV without buying Evo4 R throttle pipes, and obviously you're not going to sell an Evo4 downpipe.

Once the Mk8R continental turbos get cheap, I think that may end up being a popular retrofit, so I'm surprised to hear you haven't tried that kit on a Mk7.
