They did Danny fucking dirty. He worked his ass off for them. Was a great driver until the made max the chosen child. Sure his decision to leave was probably the worst of his career but he still won even when McLaren was at their worst. And then when he comes back to VCRB and tell him he can go back to RB they just make him leave quietly in the night. No donuts. No good bye. Nothing.
Like you said, Max was the chosen child, I think it was a good decision to leave and make his own way. He got to work with other F1 teams that were not part of the RB stable... He won with McLaren, I wouldn't have regretted it......
VCARB had horrible strategy all season but they sabotaged both drivers equally essentially, and Tsunoda has been a clear superior driver... why would they choose him over Tsunoda for the RB seat at this point, the decision might have made sense last year, but Tsunoda has proven himself by now and has matured considerably.
And he's crying all the way to the bank.
$7m per year.... it was part of his RB contract signed years ago, whether he drove for them or was a reserve, test, sim driver, etc... He got the seat over Lawson, who is 22 years old and would have benefited greatly from the experience... RB gave them more than enough of a chance, even after he broke up with them... I don't know if you guys remember the scene when Riccardo left for Renault, it was like they stole him from RB... after RB "spent" so much on him from karting, to lower formula, to Toro Rosso, only to be plucked.... and for a massive salary for a non WDC driver ($27m per year, in 2019 USD...)...
A few years after that, Mclaren paid him $36m to NOT RACE for them in 2023, and picked Piastri over him.... Piastri himself getting plucked from Alpine (he was an Alpine Junior)
That cant look good.... yet RB took him back.
edit: The biggest question really is what the fuck is Perez still doing at Red Bull? They are going to loose the WCC this year because of him 100%.
