Hi, its actually a pretty complicated install. You need a premium 7 radio and you also need to buy a harness to attach it to the radio. You need to completely remove the center console and armrest and route the harness up to the radio, reinstall everything, then use VAGCOM to code for the ipod dock.

does anyone know if ill need anything else? i have a mk5 04 golf tdi se
and could someone provide removal instructions for the cd changer in my armrest and installation for the ipod with pics
thanks
If you currently have the media bay armrest with the external six-disc CD changer -
it is a simple task to swap to the old iPod dock you referenced.

If you do NOT already have the media bay console, then as siliconcenturion points out, it is a much larger undertaking.

If you do have the media bay center console similar to the one shown above ...

1. Use DIN radio removal keys to release and remove the CD Changer
(same keys used on Mk IV head units, I had a set from those days).
The removal keys slide into the slots at the outer bottom side
of the Load and Eject buttons (see picture above).
The removal keys lock to the changer when slid in far enough,
when the keys latch inside, the locks retract, use the keys to pull free.

brass lock on each side is released with the removal keys.

2. Release the cable on the back of the changer. (release latch on each side of connector)

3. Plug cable into iPod dock.

4. Snap iPod dock into the media bay console.

No reprogramming needed, no tools other than the radio removal keys.

The aftermarket versions cost about $5 USD or so.

Mk IV VW oe replacement head units were packed with a set.
In 2003, the dealer where my car is serviced had many of them leftover from head unit swaps,
and gave me this set free of charge.

The two keys are identical, one is flipped to display both sides - larger than life

Becasue VW packed them with new head units that needed them,
they may not offer just the keys, but :iono:

Is it possible to use normal tools or OEM keys instead of the above keys to pull up the CD changer?

Yes, it is possible. All depends on if it is the correct one to release the unit.
