What did you do to your mk7 today?

PRL 4
PRL 3.5

The Walton is only available in 3.5" now...

Have you tried any of these on your turbo? The OEM IHI outlet is just over 4” OD.

The flange I posted is actually for a Borg s400, but I wanted proof of concept that the 1D 4” elbow would fit (which it kind does, but needs to go fwd to clear the ABS module).

Personally I think a 4” downpipe on a MQB car is overkill, but people swear by it being a e85 > 93 like gain so I’m curious enough to at least entertain the idea.

I haven't, I talked to Walton, their flange is specific for the MQB, when I talked to them it was on backorder with no ETA. I had the PRL in my hands in my friends' shop, but I had my turbo GTO back then not the GTI so no chance to compare both. Most of the S400's use a GT42 V band flange (I think 4.5" or slightly bigger), my main concern on those was that they are missing the step inside as the factory one. I'm going to contact PRL again and see if they reply this time. If not I will probably go with the 3.5" from Walton.

Yeah it’s far from ideal, but my plan has always been to have a local machine shop manufacturer them for production parts if it ever makes it to that stage.

The mating surface is cupped concave and the OD is slightly larger than it needs to be. It’ll still clamp down tight, but definitely not what you’d want.

Problem with having them machined here is id need to do a batch of a dozen or two to spread out programming costs. Big risk making a few thousand dollars worth of v bands to sell a 4” downpipe.

Well I was going to swap out the rear brakes (did the fronts last weekend), but it’s god damn 40* this morning and that’s way too cold for this Florida Man. Maybe I’ll drag my fire pit around front and get some heat going LOL. Wait, this might be a good idea…?

@GTIfan99 @904mk7 Marshmallow roasting at my house while you watch me curse at bolts 🤣

Got the rear pads changed but couldn’t get any leverage to break loose the carrier bolts. There’s just no room when you’re on jack stands. Maybe with different tools, I don’t know. Rotors didn’t need to be replaced so I’m fine for now. But I will need to go another route when it’s time…

The fire was a big fail. Kept blowing smoke and ash into the garage 😆

Up to 18 degrees now, about 20 below this morning just northeast of here. Soooo, I started thinking about summer tires. My OEM Pirellis have about 8,000 miles on them, and I can't complain too much except the noise. They handle great, not too bad in the rain, ride is so so. But having my fantastic Blizzak WS90's on since late October, it made me look. The snows actually handle real well, ride better, and are quieter.

The more I read about the top tires, the more the Conti Extreme Contact DWS Plus seem to be the best fit for me. I have no desire to head to the extreme tires with limited wear, and the Michelin Pilots seem to be just ok in the ride and noise areas that really bug me. Anyone here mount have those Conti's on their GTI's?

Noticed a bunch of smoke coming from under the hood, with a sweet smell. Coming from the turbo area, figured it was the coolant adapter. I bought the EMD billet aluminum adapter a while ago so finally installed it. Hardest part was taking off the coolant hose. Would’ve been easier to cut it off and put a new one on. Only one T30 holding it in place. Take the top coolant hose clamp off, take off the T30 and lift the stock plastic adapter out with the hose attached. Mine looked fine, only the o ring was torn.
So far no smoke.
