What did you do to your mk8 today.

That would mean the gearing is shorter in the mk8, which I'm totally fine with. Between lower gearing and a better clutch, that should extend the clutches life. The mk7 GTI's super tall gearing is really hard on the clutch and it was a terrible clutch to begin with.

I wonder if the mk8 R clutch is the same as mk7R/mk8 GTI clutch?

Humble mechanic says his mk8 R clutch is holding stg 1+ power with no issues, which wasn't the case with the mk7 R. That clutch would slip in a mk7 R stg 1 setup.
Yeah, a little shorter. Mk7 on left, Mk8 on right, based on 6500 rpm max and 225/40r18 tire size.

Took a drive with my son today. We did some driver education to prep him for his permit and he loved the DSG compared to struggling with the manual in a parking lot a couple weeks ago. Good day that this proud dad will look back on fondly.

I've heard DSG's give you herpes. So you need to do drivers and sex ed at the same time.
His game is strong. We had “the talk” and I still found his girlfriend’s bike in the backyard at 0300 when our Heeler went batshit crazy.

I went downstairs and his girlfriend was asked to please put her clothes on and I drove her home. That is something that he never wants to have happen with me again……I keep a camera on his walk out, basement door now.

After that night we had the “this is what happens if you have a kid in high school” talk.

No pictures to share but I got a fun box from Unitronic yesterday. UniFlex and stage 2 are coming soon. Hopefully I'll have time to tackle that job along with the H&R OE springs over the holiday.

Also installed the P3 gauge yesterday. Need to figure out the dimmer wire or how to configure display brightness.......it was a little distracting on my drive to work at 5 am.

H&R OE springs installed on my 40AE. Before measurement was 14.5” from hub center to fender. Immediately after install it’s sitting at 14”. I’m hoping it doesn’t settle much…..but I’m sure it will. No pictures since the car is still taken apart to install my hitch, but I’ll snap a couple today.

Get him an automatic car so you don't have to worry about him and girls. problem solved 🤷😂

The H&R springs ride very nice. I’d say they feel like they are somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 on the DCC when I have my car on full comfort now. More firm, but it’s definitely not like I set it to full firm and have to live with that all the time. I drove about 200 miles today and they settled an additional 1/16-1/8”. I measured right around 13-7/8” (some were closer to 15/16) at each corner. Hopefully they are done settling. I’m happy with how they look and feel…..I’ll take them for a back road rip to see how they handle, but most of the improvement will probably be due to sway bar and alignment.

Cobb finally released support for 2024 GTI with certain ECU box codes. I updated the license on my AP awhile ago, but they didn't have maps. Was able to down the maps for stage 0 and stg 1 93 Oct for mk8 onto my AP, will install tonight and then I'll pick up the EQT stg 1 high torque and stg 1 E85. It'll be cool seeing how all the maps compare.

And be warned. Your AP will start responding to button pushes really slowly if you load too many maps on it. I had like 11 different maps when it was setup for mk7.5 and it was really laggy. With 2 maps, it's very responsive. Who knew using up all the memory could slow hardware down. 🤣🤣🤣

@GTIfan99 Well? How’s the Cobb stg 1?
They don't label it as low torque, but it is. Less torque down low than my 7.5 EQT stage 1 high torque, but it keeps pulling long after the mk7.5 would have run out of steam.

When I first got the AP for the mk7.5, I ran the Cobb ots map while I waited for my EQT tune and was underwhelmed and disappointed, but it's a free map, so you can't complain. This feels like a low torque tune, but it's not disappointing. It's linear and pulls all the way to redline. When not driving hard, it has better driveability than stock. It would be really easy to drive on track.

I'll drive it like this for a while, wife has me on a budget due to the AC and roof replacements, but I'll have the EQT for next season.

Nice! From what I’m seeing from other tuners, the mk8 GTI turbo is a good deal more efficient than the mk7’s, so it can hold more boost up top without making ridiculous heat. I’m sure the EQT tune will knock your socks off 🤘

I know it sounds cliché, but this ots tune is what the car should be stock, and I'd wager the 2025 will feel about like my car does with this cobb tune.
