What was your first car?

I was just thinking about this. I figure across the forums a lot of guys may have a different story. Maybe their first car was a VW, or a beater, hand me down, classic, or anything really. Mine was a 1989 Mustang LX 5.0. Some guy in the neighborhood had one that was all cammed out so all my friends wanted one.

I had already been working various jobs and saving to afford a car. It was white, with black trim, ten hole wheels, porno red interior, 100k miles etc. It was a looker for sure... This pic was after a lot of work here and there, few mods and a fresh paint job due to a little accident in Mexico. I sold it to a friend after a couple years to get something newer. He later sold it to another guy, who wrapped it around a pole and totaled it. RIP

Nice. Always liked the coupe vs the hb. Maybe it was the cool looking highway patrol cars here in tx.

Pretty sure my dad hated me 🤣

Back in the early 90s there were plenty of ratted out 2nd generation Camaros and Firebirds with backyard engine swaps for $500.
My stepfather bought my first car for me, simply because he wanted to screw some guy over for running his mouth that he would sell it for $1000 that day. It was in 1994, Mine wasn't a second gen, it was a third gen. 1984 Camaro base coupe. Rusted out rear fenders, backyard (probably) paint job in Champagne with no clear coat or shine whatsoever, moldy brown tweed interior, automatic, AM/FM radio. It didn't even have the spoiler that you see on pretty much any third-gen. The only thing that they actually chose to get better than base was the 305 V8. The thing broke down all the time. I had to pay all of my insurance, and gas, and repairs. I put WAY more than $1000 in it, just trying to keep it running. And I wasn't allowed to get a different car.

Damn, mine was pretty reliable unless I did something stupid. I remember the heater core blew out one day, and I had no idea what was happening. I just turned around and hauled ass back home to figure it out.

92 Mazda B2600 manual. Was actually a hand me down. Loved that thing, before they started rebadging Ford Rangers. Manual, rwd, bright red (now hate red on cars, but man that thing would shine when polished). Was a blast to drift anytime it rained or on dirt roads.

Love the look of those 80's, early 90's mini trucks. Would love to get another one and LS swap it.

Not mine but it was identical to this except sunroof.

Yea I liked those mini trucks back in the day. That was my original plan actually, a truck of some sort. Used to go to the grocery store and look at all the cool builds in the magazines.

The heater core was the last straw for me. It went out in the late fall. I had to keep an icescraper in my passenger seat to scrape the frost off of the inside of the windshield from by breath as I drove. I had luckily gotten kicked out and was living with my grandparents. They gave me my graduation present early ($) and I bought an '88 Fiero. It was a lemon too. :(

My first car was a hand me down from my dad so he could get a new car. It was an 88 Honda Accord Sedan LX 5 speed (older then me). I learned to drive a manual on that car as soon as I was old enough to reach the pedals. The paint was faded and it had 250k miles on it but she ran like a dream and was free. I still miss that cable clutch and shifter. Carburetor that you had to stab the gas pedal to get the choke off. I rattle can painted it flat black and did some practice welding on the fenders that were all rusted out. Saved up some money cutting grass and installed a banging sound system. Sony Xplod (yeah buddy) head unit, door speakers, duel Infinity amps and 2 10" Pioneer subs in the trunk. The neighbor guy who was a gear head helped me install it. I then cut some more grass and saved up some money to put some rims on it. Can't find a picture of them but they were some gangster Voxx wheels that I bought from a speed shop in Wilmington, DE. Oh, and it had a Pace Setter exhaust since the factory one rusted out.

Got so many speeding tickets in that car. Not because it was fast, I was just stupid. A buddy of mine rear ended me while we were turning into high school and bent the frame. Removed all my stuff and drove it to the junk yard with 290k miles on it. I'd like to get one again and do like a J or K swap.

Google image. I know my dad has pictures of me when I am like 6 vacuuming the Accord out but I don't have any pictures. Pop up and down headlights were the shiz.

It was the perfect car to learn maintenance on. I remember the first time I changed the oil my dad asked where the filter was. Umm I didn't remove any filter 🤦‍♂️.
