Sublyme, your right about the fasts, we don't get them. It's a US thing only. My brother lives in the states and he's recently bought a Jetta GLi, which is the same as a GTi. He says that only people who purchase a GTi receive a fast, his wife wants one and so far he can't buy one, except for ebay for $300 US plus.

the 05s can cahnge stations on the wheel, vol that is it oh yeah and mute there is other buttons that do nothing unless you have the vw incar phone kit i was told.

foglights what is diff about them?

yeah the arial is also different ours is in the backwindow.

i dont think there is anything else that i can think off.

maybe when we meet up we will have to see the differences then.

I think the foglights arent projector style anymore? Well thats what I read somewhere I think.

Since the only stereo related thing regarding the steering wheel controls is the volume (on the 06 models anyway) I guess losing it when/if I replace the headunit to an aftermarket one won't hurt too much. Just have to find one that won't ruin the look of the dash though.

just instal a after market on ein the glovebox or something to keep the original one there.

i think you can buy single din with a slot underneath it from VW to fit a aftrermarket unit in there actually.

Thanks for that gti_oz, Im abit confused about what it says regarding the steering wheel interface though. One section says it supports Alpine, Kenwood and JVC, yet below that it only lists Alpine models?

So does that mean I can get either 1 of the 3 brands or only Alpine?

Sublyme, it looks like an updated version that will now control kenwood and JVC, where before it was only Alpine I believe.
I was only looking for Alpine compatible units myself, I think they are the best heads out there (personal opinion of course).

I see, that sounds promising then. I had an alpine headunit in my old car so Im kinda sick of the design now since it hasn't really changed from the one I had previously.

The site seems to list dealers and online shops but theyre all located outside of Australia, do you know if any of them ship overseas? I found Autotoys ship overseas but couldn't find the actual part on their site. Plus the shipping charges are crazy! :(

I assume these days that most suppliers will ship anywhere, but yes the shipping can kill it. if the item isn't too big I've found it's not that bad even thru UPS.

I found PAC had been listed as one of the products which they can get at the FHRX Studios website (car audio specialist in Sydney) so that may be the go. Im sure they can order it in if they dont have it in stock. I'll find out when I get around to upgrading the sound system.

Yeah Marty at FHRX is a great guy he should be able to do it for you.

and there is a place in QLD that has done a aftermarket install i will see if i can find out if they used one or not and where they got it from.

Does anyone know if you still need to buy an aftermarket surround if you're replacing the headunit with a double din one? I know the standard one has round edges so it looks like it would leave some gaps if you replace it.

Love the TAN! Looks good... Good move with VW using black carpets.

Thanks :) The beige floor mats are getting dirty too quickly though, so much maintenance required with beige leather and not to mention trying to keep a black car clean!
