They should just do it with a stick and offer the 3.6 and be done with it. Otherwise they might as well just offer a hotter version of the turbo that makes 250 and see if they can't lighten the car a bit as the smarter way to get performance. Then you wouldn't need the awd as much.

Just my thoughts, otherwise the R doesn't really seem that fast - 6.2 is a second and a half off what an evo will do. I don't want an evo to be honest, but if I were to lay down that kind of money, it needs to be very clear to me what i'm getting in return is more than .2 sec and better performance in deep snow.

According to Jamie on VWVortex, neither of the current transmissions (DSG or 6-speed manual) will handle the torque of the 3.6. Beefed-up trannies won't fit in the current platform, so it looks a lot like the MkV R, if we get it in the States, will be a 3.2; the R36, if it happens at all, will likely be a MkVI.
