? For a 2nd poll:
which campground is preferred if Toqua is booked? http://tellicolakecampgrounds.com/index.php/toqua-campground/

State park?
National forest free dispersed camping spots?
Others close to Toqua?
This is my go to camp spot for the Dragon & Cherohala Skyway. There’s I think 6 or 7 spots at JB campground and several others dispersed along the Citico Creek area. All first come basis.
The best way I’ve found into JB is off of HWY360 onto Chestnut Valley Rd then Buck Hwy. This way you’re only on the gravel forest rd for less than a mile and the campground is just to the south. The forest rd - Citico Rd - Continues north almost to Toqua and South into Indian Boundary Campground. I’ve driven the entire length of Citico Rd in my GTI on 200tw so it’s not too bad 😂

In my experience the Tail is so overwhelmed with dudes on Harleys going 15mph in the summer months it’s not worth the trip.

Id be down for a off season event.

Even better, another off season event at the lessor known Back of the Dragon in VA.

Great post, looks like fun. Maybe a fall event? September/October? Or a couple mid-week summer days?

Midweek is always best for minimizing other traffic.

Yeah mid week definitely helps with the traffic congestion, but even then the Back of the Dragon was the clear winner. We were able to rip the full 32 miles without interruption where at the Tail we’d get held up constantly.

Don’t get me wrong, both a bucket list worthy roads, but I’ve definitely got my favorite.

Having a cool showroom/bar with a food truck is a nice bonus too. Similar to the tail but all under one roof.

Yeah I agree Jake 16 is a great road, and definitely less traveled than 129. As I have mentioned before there are several other 'must drive' roads in the BOTD area that are also very, very good as well. I average 5000+ miles per driving season running the mountain roads of NC/SC/TN/KY/VA/WV.

I went to the Dragon mid-week last July. During the day it was busy, not terrible, but enough that it was annoying. I ended up getting up early getting a few runs before 8-9am and was empty. Then again at dusk to late evening. Totally empty except for a couple others who didn't slow anybody down. Driving it at night was awesome, really focuses the mind.

This is good info guys, keep it coming.
FWIW, the pics I posted are from SOWO 2015 in Helen, GA. Apparently it was so out of hand, they wouldn't let anyone come back. I was there, but not part of any shenanigans (this time).
