Excessive Dry Noise over Bumps

Hi forum,

I have a 2016 MK7 R with 125,000 km on the clock. It is a fantastic car but there is a new noise which has been getting progressively worse over the past two weeks.

It is a dry creaking/grating type noise. I have taken in to a wheel and suspension place and they have said everything seems fine. I will take it to another shop for a second opinion, but would really appreciate it if I could get feedback from this group on what you think this noise might be?

It is only from the front end of the car and happens when the car goes over a significant speedbump:

Thanks so much,
Ben

Did you take a mechanic for a ride with you so you can show them? You might need to find a shop close to the speed bumps.

My car made similar noises. I've used WD-40 silicone spray to "soak" the rear end bushing of the lower control arm. It has been quiet for a long time now.

Might also be worth spraying your top hats. Don't use regular WD-40 though, you specifically want their silicone spray like @ZERO815 suggested. Though I've also used Super Lube on many things when rubber is involved as well.
My upper strut mounts have a bit of a groan to them when it's cold out. I've already soaked the LCA ones that I can see with WD-40 Specialist Silicone Lubricant, and that helped some. Can you access the upper stuff without removing a ton of parts?

I believe you would need to loosen the strut mount bolts up top, they're technically stretch bolts IIRC so caveat whatever

tbh if you loosen them a little you can probably just spray in there and let it soak in, you'd just need to lift up the rain tray a little. Not awful to get to if you're using a spray lube, but if you use something like super lube you'd need to be able to get a finger in there

Just had my 2020 TSI in for the fourth time for this reason. Dealer replaced front strut mounts and bearings, sway bar links, control arm bushings. Similar problem with my 2019 Alltrack, also took multiple dealer visits with the same solution.

I had my steering rack and strut bearings or whatever they’re called no fix. I’m convinced it’s the LCA bushings or my shocks are done altogether.

The exact noise on my 2016 GTI. As someone else said, spray rubber pieces on wishbone and sway bar b

The exact same noise as on my 2016 GTI. As someone else said, spray silicone on rubber parts on wishbone and sway bar bushings. I have been doing this for some time. Once or twice a year. Be generous with spray. I use one from lowes.

My 2017 SE does this also. It goes away if I'm driving in the rain for the most part. Never been able to figure it out.
