I loved my aluminum hood on my 2004 S2000. Lifting the hood on the MK8 Golf R is surprisingly heavy considering VW chose to save weight by eliminating the spare tire. Why not go all the way and truly reduce weight where possible? yeah, I know...cost. Probably cheaper for a bottle of tire sealant and compressor than a spare tire? maybe. Probably a draw in cost if you ask me.
Anyway, I searched this and other forums as well as ECS Tuning, BMP, USP. etc. and found no options for an aluminum hood. Only CF. not my thing and with the real driving I do, chipping of CF is not something I want to deal with. My MK7 GTI has enough rock chips on the hood that it's got rust stains all over it now. AT 150K miles, I'm not super concerned about that one, but it does erk me everytime I see it.
Any suggestions, sites, options out there?
