Wondering if anyone has any experience on this matter or knows someone who can help. Basically my car had a minor knock with a vehicle. Literally 2 minor scuffs on the bumper, and the VW badge got cracked/knocked in partially. I thought it would be a small job of simply replacing the VW logo and some minor paintwork. £500 job tops, but it turns out the ACC radar for the car is installed behind the VW badge. I went to 3 bodywork shops, 2 refused to repair the badge, and the 1 that was willing to said I would have to get the whole radar system replaced, and re-coded to the vehicle. They said it was cost around £1500 to repair it. I tried going Volkswagen today, but they didn't have any body work technicians available to check my car. Has anyone had a similar situation with a MK8 Golf ? Did you replace just the badge, or did the radar system have to be replaced too ? Also if anyone knows of a garage in London area that can fix the badge without having to add a whole new radar system, let me know. Many thanks in advance.

You can just replace the badge, it unclips from the grill, Providing that the radar and it’s mountings behind the badge are undamaged you can just remove the grill and take the old badge off and clip the new one on, no calibration will be necessary, even if you replace the whole grill and fix the old radar to it. You won’t need to calibrate, because the grill can only mount in one location so will be aimed correctly already.

Ignoring the badge for a moment, If you find that ANY part of your grill has damage, I’d recommend you buy this whole grill from eBay and transfer the radar over from your one.
