Well I guess its official.

My inner FAST wants to be let off the chain.

They have an office pool going on at work as to what date within the next month I get pulled over by the PoPo.

Karma is probably going to catch up with me even more maliciously because of this office pool.

Heck I threw a couple bucks in just hoping to defray part of my citation cost.

This car is fun as hell to drive and I can honestly say that other than the soft clipping issue with the radio I have no regrets in purchasing it.

On a side note. Economy is great! I commute about 58miles one way to work, mostly highway and my car is averaging about 28.7 miles per gallon. That is getting into the throttle and averaging 75mph

Don't joke, I've just recieved my court summons for going 103mph on the motorway last November. Probably be banned for awhile, potentially up to a year... though since my license is clean more like a month. Speeding tickets are not fun.

Radar Detectors are your friends...unless you live in Virginia, Washington DC and I think two other states. They're not fullproof, but it's saved my ass enough times to pay for itself. Just need to be smart in using it and not expect it to provide you speeding immunity.

If you have a friend like that in your car here in Belgium, there's the possibility you could loose your car. Having a radar detector in Belgium is forbidden and when the cops find one in your car they confiscate your radar detector and maybe even possibly your car.

My above statement was definitely not trying to flaunt an invincibility against the law, rather to share my inner feelings aka. I want to drive it fast as hell.

Radar detectors are legal where I live but of questionable utility as even the laser detection on the Valentine1 doesnt really help. Once you get hit with the laser they know how fast you are going and there really isnt any type of early warning with it that I know of.

Bottom line, I usually drive 5-7mph over the speed limit otherwise I follow the fastest groups of traffic.

As for tickets not being fun... Trust me, I know. my last performance vehicle was a 1969 Dodge Charger. 550 RWHP. My insurance was insane at that point in my life.

If you're driving 5-7mph over the speed limt in the GTI then you're probably driving the speed limit.

Not to take the thread off topic but is there any light at the end of the proverbial tunnel? Is VW planning on fixing the speedo issue or is it pretty much considered a minor quirk of the model?

Angry, I wasnt trying to say you were implying you were invincible. If my post came off that way I apologize. I was simply sayin that radar detectors can come in handy at times. Only real way to avoid laser detection is to purchase a laser shifter (jammer). However, in Pennsylvania laser is rarely if ever used. Mostly the state cops here use K band, and a few use Ka.

I used to be in the same boat and thought that radar detectors were a waste. But then I bought my Escort x50 and i started to change my opinion. Now if you're doing well over 120mph and get hit with radar there is a significant chance you're shit outta luck, but for normal 80-90mph it has alerted me with plenty ample time to slow it down. the smallest margin I've been alerted at that speed is at least 1/2 mile, with 1-2miles not uncommon. Now this is on PA with wonderful windy up and down hilly roads. Even our interstates arent flat. They claim the higher end (Escort x50, Valentine 1, Bell RX65) can detect at up to 8miles on a flat road. And since 15 over in PA is about $150 fine, it only needs to save you twice to pay for itself. Though the Valentine is $400 i think.

GTI2007 yes, i've heard that the European (most countries) laws on radar detectors are harsh and the punishments worse. We have a few states here like that, but most are fine and dandy with it. However, you won't get any slack from a police officer if you're pulled over and there is one in the window.
