thats kewl, i would assume that these production numbers are plant specific??

would make sense to me that mine would be high being built in wolfsburg and the gti being in production there for a couple years at least...

i dont know exactly which plants produce the gti, but heres a list of the 12th digit plant designator in your vin for VWs in general:

*A - Ingolstadt
*B - Brussels
*E - Emden
*G - Graz
*H - Hanover
*K - Osnabruck
*M - Mexico
*N - Neckarsulm
*P - Brazil
*S - Stuttgart
*V - Westmoreland, PA. (USA)
*W - Wolfsburg
*Y - Spain (SEAT)

whats everyone showing?

we are just showing the last 3-6 digits of the seriel number.

I think, most of us got a WVW for the 1st 3 characters on the seriel?
1st W = Germany
2nd V = Volkswagen
3rd W = Wolfsburg

this is a portion from the link i previously postd..

11th Character: The 11th character in your VW's vehicle identification number reveals the assembly plant for the vehicle.

12th - 17th Character: The 12th through the 17th character in your VW's VIN indicate the sequence of the vehicle for production as it rolled off the manufacturer's assembly line. The last four characters are always numeric.

it sounds you may still be reading the vin incorrectly.. ?

the 11th character being the assembly plant.. i accidentally posted it being the 12th earlier, sorry

oh my bad, i thought the 3rd W on my Seriel refers to Wolfsburg. it appears that the 3rd character should be refer to the model -- meaning W=Golf GTI ?

It should be the 11th then.
