Audi S3 is awesome

I test drove an audi S3 face lift today and it was amazing. I wonder how guys prefer a golf R other than practicality reasons (S3 sport back is not as nice as the salon). The S3 is way more luxurious inside out..has such a road presence. Am not a profesional driver nor track my car..i like to go to a B Roads and have a bit of fun and give the car full throttle from time to time..thats all. I have read many reviews that says the audi steering feel is numb...I don't understand what does that mean..i drove both the R and the S3 and couldn't differentiate in steering feel..does that matter on track only? I read abt the suspension set up differences between both cars..but to b honest..you wouldn't notice it on the road. The pre face lift S3 wasn't nice to look at as much as this one..the changes are small but they make a huge difference somehow..

One last thing..whoever says the quality of material is the same between a golf R and an S3 is wrong..the steering leather won't fade away in time..as wel asl the writing on the engine start button.. as what happens in the Golf R..for the price..the interior of the Golf is really good up to the GTI..but for the price of the golf R..i dont know

Thanks

You're probably posting on the wrong website for soliciting reasons why the S3 is better than the R. :p

Would you rather be a big fish in the hot hatch segment in the R?

Or a small fish in the luxury segment in the S3?

I need an explanation on the steering feel issue. Does the steering feel different between an S3 and an R/GTI? Is it noticeable on the road or only on track? What does it mean "steering feels numb"?

The new S3 has better torque vectoring than previous years. It can now utilize the rear end more and send more power to the rear wheels when needed than last year's model.

Now if it only came as a hatch. I'm a hot hatch guy, not a salon guy. However, when my wife's 3 Series I'll look at it.

I have no doubt that overall the S3 is nicer, but it's also about ten grand pricier. The question then becomes, is it worth it for you? I'd have a harder time paying what they ask for a S3, coming from an R, than I would paying, say, $60k for an S4, a 340i, or a C43 AMG.

For me the S3 was never an option due to the lack of the manual transmission. And to be honest I'm not a fan of the interior either. It's better in quality, but worse in design IMO

What would you say when you hear that in Europe there's only very
little difference between Golf R and S3 hatch? Yes, you can get the
Audi S3 either in 3-door, 5-door and sedan guises:

Audi S3 - from 41.000,00 incl. VAT / £ 32.790

https://www.audi.de/de/brand/de.html

https://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/a3/s3.html

VW Golf R - from 40.675,00 € incl. VAT / £ 32.435

http://www.volkswagen.de/de/models/der-golf/trimlevel_overview.html

http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/perfect...7-3|yd5:yd5-1|yd6:yd6-1&modelName=golf-vii-pa

Granted, almost any options are more expensive at Audi. But it's still
hardly a reason to choose one over the other. ;)

Exactly. The price difference between the S3 and Golf R is 2000$...

Trest drove the S3 and S4 and didn't like either, interior was bland and the ride quality was horrible. The Golf is a much nicer place to be and having the VW badge people let you out of junctions. There is a stereotype driver of Audi's in this country and sadly most fill it perfectly.:D

I hated the s3 interior loved the way it drove. I have owned at least a dozen Audi over the years and currently have an sq5 sitting next to my R. I was so disappointed in the design of the s3 interior I paid MSRP for the first time ever to get my golf r and waited for months instead of paying below list for an s3 that was available that day.

Don't get me wrong, both cars are brilliant but for me the interior as well as the hatch sold me on the R.

I had the old a3 hatch and it would have been a harder choice if the s3 came stateside in hatch form.

Other than interior the two cars are very similar driving machines.
