Bumper Grille Damage

Hi all,

Looking for advice.

A couple of weeks ago, I was travelling on a country road at around 50mph and before I could swerve, I hit a pheasant, when was infested into the front of my R-Line lower grille and lay to rest in front of the radiator.

The only cosmetic damage was to the lower grille (see images). The car and its mechanicals are fine (as far as I can tell). The radiator looks invested or bent to me, but it could be illusion or my eyeline, as it could have always looked like this!

Anyway, I automatically claimed on my insurance and it’s booked in to be fixed in a few weeks. Trouble is, my excess is £500. If there’s nothing wrong with the radiator (car drives fine, no overheating or leaks, AC works as usual etc), I am potentially paying £500 for that small lower front grille plastic to be replace - these can be bought on eBay for £80!

So, I suppose I’m asking, what do you think? I could try to replace that lower grille myself but I’m not the most mechanically minded and don’t know how to get the damaged grille out, and a new one in, without taking the whole bumper off!

Any advice, greatly appreciated!

If it's anything like the Mk6/7 you must remove the bumper cover to replace.
Safe assumption it's the same procedure.

I can't answer your question but i've always wondered if you should be able to claim off whoever lets the pheasants loose.
They are not native birds so are purely bred for shooting and are let loose for this reason.
