One thing you can do is use pandora.com. You can type in your favorite artist and it will give you suggestions of artists with similar style.

lol i like eveything. i'm just looking for new suggestions cause i'm running out of ideas. but if you do need any kind of references, my favorite bands/artits are incubus, linkin park, john mayer, kanye, jay-z, michael buble, john legend, common, taking back sunday, story of the year to name a few.

from some of your choices i would say.

Funeral For A Friend - all their cds are good, but the older the harder, but really not hard in my opinion.
Maylene and the Sons of Disaster - both cds cause they are simply badass
Portugal the Man - mellow unique band
Brand New - Pretty mellow band have gotten better over time IMO

if you want some metal or harder stuff let me know thats primarely what i listen too.
