The opening hours of shops and other businesses In Germany are actually much longer now than they used to be.

I was born and raised in Germany, and when I was a kid you wouldn't even dream of buying something after 6PM or on the weekends. We had a "Langer Samstag" ("Long Saturday") once a month when shops in the city center were allowed to be open until 6PM -- it was the only opportunity for people with restricted schedules to do some shopping or run errants.

Misleading also because it says managers can't contact staff. So, the people that actually tend to contact each other (manager to manager) can still occur.
