What Would Glenn Danzig Do
I want to buy a Taurus G2. My wife has wanted us to get a gun for "protection" for a while, which is pretty hilarious to me, since who tf do we need it to protect us from? Nobody is rioting down our suburban streets lol. I just want to get one since shooting guns is fun, and it'll be nice to have my own to go to the range with a buddy every now and then.
It's really hard to beat for the price honestly. And you never know, houses get broken into even in nice neighborhoods

I had someone dump a mag right on the corner in my overpriced neighborhood one evening. Pretty sure they all went up too 😂 Stuff happens anywhere, any time. And it’s hard to argue the economy is getting better, drug addiction is down and less are resorting to crime to make ends meet.

Decisions decisions... definitely wanting to upgrade my daily carry. I was able to shoot a Springfield hellcat at my local range and that thing is awesome. Haven't been able to shoot an r7 mako yet but that's still on my radar. Knowing me I'll probably end up with both at some point. How do you guys decide what you buy? Rent a bunch of guns at the range and go from there? A lot of the online reviews are just terrible and I agree with some of the comments that these are just morons with a YouTube page trying to get views. There's some good one though.

I have way too many guns, most of them my dad has given me over the years, he's a nut and has about 90 but many of them aren't my style at all. Like he gave me a derringer 9mm - 2 shot double barrel 9mm. Thing is completely worthless, I'm a good shot and at 10 yards I could barely put a round on target. No clue why anyone would want something like that but somehow I ended up with it lol. Every time I visit him in Kentucky I go home with 1-5 of his guns, he's going to go be me one of his 1911's when I see him for Christmas in a few weeks so that'll be fun
I used to just go the “buy n try” route then I ended up with too many guns I never use. Till I ended up with a CZ via trade in. I think most people have a gun make that fits better and works for them over others. Most manufacturers tend to try to keep ergonomics and manual of arms the same across models so I just go the tried and true route now.

My EDC is a CZ75 P01. Thousands of rounds and no issues except when training with dummy rounds. The P01 is an aluminum frame with hammer and decocker but they make polymers striker styles in the popular Glock sizes as well.

Many variants:

The P10 (polymer) series go on sale for 350 and are great competition and EDC guns

Wonder if I can get one off AliBaba...

I know like 3 people with them, because like you said. It's very cheap to get into and works fine as a "My First Gun".

Half of it is just laziness. To get licensed to buy a gun in RI, you have to pass a 50 question test. Which from everyone I've talked to, it's just basic common sense questions. But it requires scheduling a test, going somewhere, etc...

Wild. IL just checks to see if you're a felon or not. My wife just got hers and it only took about 2 weeks. When I got mine ~20 years ago I waited about 5 months. Conceal carry is different, 16 hour class with written test as well as shooting proficiency at 5 yards, 7 yards and 10 yards.

In FL they just hand you a ghost gun when you get your first drivers license, which is just a test to make sure you know Espanol

If you like the hellcat, that is a start.

The buy/try is fun, but not the most productive. What don't you like about your current carry gun that you want to upgrade? I've went through several over the years, but learned my most important considerations are weight and thickness. My G19 is a chore to carry, my 43x disappears and is easy to tote all day.

Not familiar with the R7, but one piece of advice....mainstream guns are easier and cheaper to get holsters/mags/sights etc for.

There's nothing wrong with it, my go to is the Taurus G2 and I actually like it. It's like any hobby, I just like guns and like shooting different kinds. I have 22 currently, 6 pistols but only have holsters for 3 of them. One is a Ruger .380 which is way too small for my hands and low magazine capacity. Other is a sign p229 that's too heavy for carry, then the Taurus g2 which I enjoy and think it shoots great.

Same reason I buy my dog a new toy every few weeks just to have something new 🤷

I was like that for years. Variety is the spice of life. Now I feel like thinning the heard. I have guns -- looking at you S&W M29 -- that I don't ever think I'll shoot again and are just collecting dust. Feel like that could fund another hobby, but I don't know what that other hobby is

@tmw2442 I agree with bucking whatever trend gets me upvotes by pRedditors for my semi professional gun photographs. Some of these guys must either get their guns cerakoted every time they go to the range, or they never really shoot them and are just Larping. Either way they’re probably cucks who feel that performative masculinity, i.e. being into a “manly” hobby aka collecting gear (and yet somehow still getting it all wrong) mitigates for their actual lack of being useful as a man in any capacity. Gun culture has become the 300lb. fat guy decked out in spandex while riding a $10,000 road bike with cosplay sponsor logos all over an outfit he has no business wearing.
same things goes for whatever "new" caliber hottest gets released every 2-3 years....Dude you "need" a 300AAC, (subsonic generally its a 45 acp, and super it's a 7.62x39, congrats....)
oh...that is so last year now I "need" a to sell my 308 for a 6.5 creed....etc, because it is better, you know when I need to "reach..." past 500+ yards.....
Get things because they are cool or useful to you, not because it's the new gun hipster trend. If your 50 lbs plus overweight, and decked out...you'll be the first to expire anyway, and I will have plenty of your equipment so snag....lol. while you ride you bmw 1250GS to protect your local starbux coffee shop from rioters...

IMO...9mm, 45 acp, 5.56, 7.62x39 and 308 have been hunting and protecting for 50+ years and will continue to be readily available. Continue to do so for another 100, probably to the heat death of the universe or zompig a pork a lipse, ...but you do you....so to speak.

A $300 gun, 300 in ammo, and a 300 training day....beats a $1000 boutique glock-i-zine, every time. But...if you absolutely need to gun hipster into something, some type of 5.7 pistol makes the most "sense", if you can get the good ammo for it.

This thread needs more gun porn....post away...

Yeah I have a few that I'll never shoot. My dad has given me a few old ww2 guns that he convinced will be worth something someday. I doubt it because they are rare at all and in just ok condition. Sigh, they'll sit in the gun case forever. Dont think I'd ever sell them anyways, I'll be glad to have them for memories later on when he's gone.

Well said. And I’m beginning to find even .45 acp cumbersome. But if you gotta die on your feet, a 1911 in your hand is the symbolic FU way to go when everything else is spent

I've got a couple k98s. Grandpa tactically acquired one in ww2. Finding good mauser ammo is getting hard.

Also, the reason people should exercise their 2nd amendment right should never go into question. Shouldn't matter if you have an mp7, 5.7, or a .277. Go out, have fun, be responsible, and live free.
