Regrettably, I think this is the way things will go - and already is with some manufacturers - regarding certain features and options on their vehicles.

Over forty years ago I had a friend who worked for Rank Xerox installing photo copiers which were very expensive and were only purchased by large businesses. He told me that there was an expensive upgraded version which could be retrofitted. All he had to do was open up the back and flick a switch.

A modern take on this practice has now been adopted by motor manufacturers.

Nothing is new.

As I run a small business I have had to do MTD (Making Tax Digital) online. I now use software called Xero. Before MTD was compulsory you could buy the software but now you have to pay a monthly subscription. Surprise, surprise this subscription as already increased this year and is going up again next month. Xero know I will be reluctant to change software systems. I am a captive customer. B*stards.
