'Media Server' Build

glory

Ready to race!
Looking to build a media/download server for the family. Currently using my personal rig as the server but its only I know the password to get into it so it doesn't let the rest of the house into it. Want this pretty cheap and be able to play back 1080p with ease and be not a power hog when idling or downloading. I have a 2TB HDD going in already for storage.

Current specs:

CPU: AMD A6 5400 ($73.57) http://otvtech.com/catalogue?page=s...e_stock.tpl&product_id=16533&category_id=1040

PSU: Corsair CX430 ($49.99) http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=76034&vpn=CP-9020046-US&manufacture=Corsair&promoid=1323

RAM: Corsair XMS 4GB http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=58241&vpn=CMX4GX3M2B1600C9&manufacture=Corsair

HDD: Western Dig. Blue 250GB ($58.04) http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59705&vpn=WD2500AAKX&manufacture=Western Digital WD

Mobo: MSI FM2-A75MA-E35 ($64.99) http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=76851&vpn=FM2-A75MA-E35&manufacture=MSI/MicroStar

Case: Cooler Master Elite 343 ($40.62) http://otvtech.com/catalogue?page=s...e_stock.tpl&product_id=15947&category_id=1018

Total = $324.19

Suggestions and comments are welcome!

Seems like a pretty basic setup and I'm not sure what your storage needs are but I have 4tb currently on a NAS. The NAS is directly connected to my router and broadcast through my home Wifi. Any computer that is connected to my network and has the drive password can connect to the NAS. Allowing access to 3.6tb worth of Movies, TV Shows, Pictures, and more.

If you don't want to purchase a NAS you could also check to see if your router has USB ports on the back you could plug in a large HDD which will act as a "media server"
