SO I finally got a chance to take this bad boy for a spin and all I have to say is WOW!! but not because the sti, because I'm so glad I got a gti instead.
Let me give you a quick overview of my thoughts on the sti.
Exterior - Well as I said in my original post I really liked the aggresive, sporty look of the 2011 sedan but not a fan of the hatchback.
Interior - Looks nice from outside of the car, but once you sit in one you quickly realize how much more luxurious the gti interior really is. Everything from the knob shifter to the radio is mediocre. I noticed the steering wheel looks like a cheap version of the Gti steering wheel as well. The bottom line is the car looks like it was made in the 90's.
The Drive - I couldn't really push the car to the limit because the sales guy was sitting next to me. First impression - this feels like a tractor. This car feels totally unrefined. I didn't like the way the clutch felt- really stiff, how the shift knob vibrates and how the shift throws feel clumsy.
After getting out of the city doing about 60-70km/h the guy told me to throw it in 3rd and step on it. So I did around 3000 rpms and to my dissapointment the car felt sort of sluggish, definitely lacking torque when compared to my car. I'm trying to figure out if its because its a bigger turbo and takes more time to spool and hence more turbo lag. The ride itself is as stiff as my lowered gti which I don't mind but the handling felt a little more responsive then the gti.
Final verdict-Definitely not a car for me. Although the car itself is $8,000 more then the gti my monthly payment would only go up $40/month with a 1000 deposit, not bad but I dont think that car is worth it. I also asked the guy about insurance and he assured me that the sti would actually be cheaper then the gti due to the safety features on the car ..... I highly doubt that. I'm glad i drove one because now I have so much more appreciation for my car
