PHEV’s are an interim step before the only choice with new cars will be electric. I think the reasons will be partly due to the factors you’ve listed (not sure about the RHD factor though, as tooling for the current model RHD Megane already exists), and environment / climate change factors.

When I bought my current car in 2020, I’d already concluded it would very likely be my last ICE car. With pace at which EV technology seems to be moving, I’m quite looking forward to getting an EV in around three years time, and it probably won’t be a VW.

Yes, I have a similar view on my Mk8 eTSI Style. Nice car, software terrible (did the do any real user acceptance testing on any software release) and even worse is the UK customer service!
