Well let's just say I was extremely excited to see this, so much so I went to the midnight screening to see it. After all the trailers, and the whole Bale breakdown event I was really hoping for the forth film of the franchise to live up the the first two films or at least be leaps and bounds better than the third. Unfortunately that is not the case.
The problem with the movie is quite simple really; The dialogue lacks substance, is repetitive, and tries to borrow too often from previous films. Some lines just seem out of place, others have you wondering if they even had a purpose or if they were just trying to make the movie close to two hours. Beyond that, the guy in the director's chair is to blame. McG is a pretty much all style and no substance guy. If you liked the two Charlie's Angels flicks than you'd probably like this turd too.
I take that back though, it's not a horrible movie in the scheme of things, but it is a GIANT, and I mean GIANT let down to anyone hoping for this to live up to the franchise name.
Overall there just seems to be a lack of creativity. There's so much borrowing from elements of not just the first two films, but from other movies. One of the sequences towards the end had me thinking of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. I mean to be vague by the way, as I have attempted to not include a single spoiler in this review. There's even some issues in the casting. I mean really, Common and Michael Ironsides? I guess Sam Fisher got tired of Conviction being pushed back. Most of these actor's deliveries are pathetic. The special effects are pretty good, but it seems like they spent so much on the cgi, that they couldn't afford to do retakes that were sorely needed.
I think the rest of the audience has my back too, not a single applause at the end from the midnight crowd. Hopefully this tanks at the box office, to ensure new writers and a new director are brought on for the fifth (which I'm pretty sure Bale is already signed on for).
That's it, hopefully this makes sense, but after all it is 4 am and I have to wake up in a few hours....
