We're excited to announce our Engine Control Unit (ECU) Upgrades are now available for the Volkswagen Golf R (MK8) and Audi S3 (8Y) 2.0 TSI EA888 Gen 4 engine with the Continental Simos 19 ECU! Our new suite of Simos 19 ECU software comes after months of extensive research and development that is typically absent from the aftermarket. Our upgrade makes the engine more powerful and more exciting. We’ve extensively calibrated the system to work flawlessly in various driving conditions while retaining safety routines to protect your engine in the most demanding scenarios. This was all made possible by our engineering team's pursuit of perfection. Development vehicles were outfitted with additional sensors, including turbo shaft speed sensors, thermocouples, transducers, and more, along with our high speed direct RAM logging equipment, to feed valuable data to the team for analysis. After many hours of testing and tuning we created new calibrations that are fine tuned for several octanes and contain hundreds of map changes, with a vast array of safety features built in.

The result of this work is nothing short of astounding. Not only have we increase power, we’ve added many safety routines to ensure the engine and components are protected under demanding scenarios. Additionally we’ve added features to enhance the driving experience! We’ve added brake boosting / left foot braking, removed the vehicle speed limiter, raised the standing limiter, set auto start/stop to retain your last used mode, properly rescaled the boost and power gauges, developed a linear and flat torque curve, and linearized the throttle pedal.

To protect the engine and components we’ve spent a considerable amount of time tuning safety routines, some of which were not active from the factory. The engine has advanced LSPI protection to prevent the engine from damage when being lugged in the tallest gears. Excessive intake air temperature, which is common on a dynamometer, will cause power to reduce to protect the engine. On 6MT equipped vehicles, you’ll achieve full torque, but on DSG equipped vehicles, torque will be limited at the factory limits until our TCU upgrade is added. Furthermore more we’ve added and calibrated protection routines for turbocharger pressure ratios, shaft speed, exhaust pressure, intake air temperature, coolant temperature, oil temperature, lambda, fueling system limitations, and more.

PERFORMANCE STAGES

The APR Stage 1 and Stage 2 ECU upgrades are designed for use on the factory turbocharger. The ECU alone with no hardware mods produces 398-442 HP and 385-430 FT-LBS with +64-112 WHP and +76-118 WFT-LBS over stock, depending on fuel grade. By adding hardware such as our intake and intercooler, the tune automatically jumps to Stage 2 power levels and produces 410-455 HP and 389-436 FT-LBS with +74-123 WHP and +80-125 WFT-LBS over stock, depending on fuel grade. Adding more mods will increase power further.

Optional Low Torque Files
For manual transmission vehicles, this file helps alleviate stress on the factory clutch. Upgrade the clutch to run the high torque file.
On DSG/S-Tronic transmission vehicles, funning this file is necessary to prevent slip. Run our TCU upgrade to remove torque caps and to prevent slip.

This tune is available for 91, 93, 100, and 104 AKI fuel grades, as well as E60-E85 Ethanol in North America. In the ROW it's available in 95, 98, 104, and 108 RON fuel grades, as well as E60-E85 Ethanol.

APR Plus is optionally available and adds our limited powertrain warranty to this stage. It's available for 91 AKI fuel grade in the USA and requires the use of original factory or APR approved hardware only.

When selecting a fuel grade, a minimum of that fuel grade must be used. Using higher fuel grades is permissible.

We can finally share the news! We’ve been working with the new Garrett PowerMax GT2563S on our MK8 Golf R and with Garrett’s official announcement we’re pleased to report we’re one step closer to a release. Our turbos are on order and our kit, including software, will be releasing at the same time. We’re seeing excellent gains with 430 All Wheel HP (AWHP) on 93 octane with our Stage 3 ECU/TCU upgrade and only the turbo, intake, and intercooler and everything else stock (exhaust, sensors, and fueling all completely untouched). Whereas power to the wheels on the stock turbo takes a nose dive towards redline, the Stage 3 turbo kit keeps climbing all the way to 7,000 RPM and beyond! For comparison sake, the factory turbo only does around 360 AWHP at the same RPM, or about 70 AWHP less.

Of course we’ve made sure our upcoming Stage 3 software is safe and reliable. We keep torque nice and flat as to not punish the engine internals. Through extensive instrumentation of our test vehicles we’ve corrected all models and retain factory protection for exhaust gas temperature, turbo shaft speed (even with the sensor unplugged), turbo discharge temperature, and various other flow and pressure quotients to ensure the system runs smoothly and safely in all situations.

We’re excited to announce APR Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 software updates are now available for 2.0T EA888.4 engines found in vehicle such as the MK8 GTI, Golf R, 8Y S3, and Arteon! With this latest update, you can achieve full torque on DSG-equipped vehicles without the need for a TCU upgrade! This update applies to North America with ROW market vehicles, including other makes and models, updating in the coming weeks.

Previously, a TCU upgrade was necessary to reach maximum torque. However, our new update provides additional coding to the ECU, eliminating this requirement. Rest assured, the ECU and TCU continue to work in harmony, accurately calculating engine load and torque to ensure smooth gear shifts and the proper clutch pressure needed to hold torque.

For GTI (245 HP) platforms you can now install the latest high-torque software. Adding our TCU upgrade, if available, will further enhance your driving experience and deliver faster acceleration. Our own 0-60 testing saw a further .16s reduction taking our Stage 3 E85 equipped GTI from 5.12 seconds down to 4.96 on the street with the TCU added!

For Golf R, S3, and Arteon (280-333 HP) platforms even more options are available. By installing the highest torque software, you can instantly unlock maximum torque. For an even more exhilarating experience, consider adding our TCU upgrade, if available, with the TCU specific high-torque file. This offers further enhancements, particularly to launch control, which requires the TCU to be safely unlocked. Our own 0-60 testing saw a further .94s reduction taking our Stage 3 104 AKI equipped Golf R from 4.25 seconds down to 3.31 seconds on the street with the TCU added! Manual transmission customers seeking maximum performance in all scenarios should also install the TCU-specific high torque software.

All of these updates apply to version 1.2.2 and higher on each stage and platform. North American software will be ready by this evening, September the 20th, 2024 with ROW files to be announced separately. As always, APR’s software enhancements are available at no extra cost to existing customers!
