Dougy

Does anyone know the timing/cam belt replacement interval on the Mk8 1.5eTSI DSG engine? The VW manual doesn't tell you and the website just says as specified??

ErWin says never ever replacement for timing belt, and that is weird
Only in dusty conditions, replacement 120 000km and:

The toothed belts of the motors, which do not have a specified replacement or inspection interval, have a long-lasting construction. Volkswagen
recommends checking the timing belt after 300,000 km or 15 years.

Thats for gasoline engines, TDI engines 120 000km

Replace after 5 years 60kmiles to be on the safe side.
I don't think that is necessary.

If VW has not specified a replacement interval other than what @tos wrote in post #2 above, that implies that they have high confidence in the longevity of the belt. I doubt very much if they would fail to publish a replacement interval if they had any concern that the belt might fail earlier than noted - simply because if there were a run of belts failing at (for example), 100K miles, or 150 K miles, or 10 years, or whatever, they would be at risk of having to put in place a warranty extension and carry out very expensive repairs under that warranty extension.

VW recommends "checking" the belt on the gasoline engines after 300,000 km (about 200,000 miles) or 15 years, assuming normal operating conditions. If one wants to be extra-cautious, one could have the belt inspected at 200,000 km (about 130,000 miles) or 10 years, and if evidence of deterioration is found, have it replaced at that time. But, replacing - not simply checking, but replacing - at 100,000 km (60,000 miles) and 5 years is overkill.
