Will probably be a while before they get installed, but just ordered a 24x14in RT trim vent from www.racelouvers.com to put my theory to the test: that these cars really just need airflow.

https://racelouvers.com/center-hood-louvers-24w-x-14d-rt-track-trim/

There is a more aggressive RX trim vent that will drop right in if I ever feel the need, but frankly I think this'll be sufficient.

I was originally debating between 20x11.5 and 20x16.5, but upon further review, the holes physically cut are a bit narrower than the large "structure" in the front corners so the 24in wide vent should fit just fine. I spoke w/ Al from Racelouvers and he recommended 11.5 or 14in back, while maintaining the forward edge 2 to 4in from behind the radiator. 16.5in would LIKELY end up too far back, with more risk of hurting flow than helping, short of wind tunnel testing which I'm not paying for.

There won't be any other powertrain changes to the car in the meantime, so HOPING to be able to make the SCCA TNiA at VIR on July 20th.

(in the pics the marks are at 11.5in and 16.5in. Obviously the 14in deep louvers will be partway between those lines.)

So far its all stock location IC's. It'd be interesting to see some front mount numbers vs the stock location.

I agree, would be very interested to see one of @GTI Jake 's intercoolers on a stage 1 pump gas car for a comparison. I have a spare dongle I could send him for logging if needed if he could make it to VIR. TNIA is July 20th (with choices of morning or afternoon).

Might have some FMIC data from a stage 1 car this weekend if I can get my dongle and cheap android phone to pull full session logs. Still on an EQT tune via Cobb, so no HSL and will just be mode22. Forecasted to be a pretty warm day down here too so definitely expecting high temps to be a limiting factor.

Not sure if you can use this data, but thought I'd attach.

Awesome! Make sure you can log the following at minimum which I've been looking at on Cobb logs:

Accel pedal position
RPM
Vehicle speed
Boost Pressure
Ambient air temp
Intake air temp
Coolant temp
Oil temp
Knock cyl 1-4
Ignition Avg

Whatever you're logging with, shake the dongle a bit as I think I finally figured out that mine has a slightly loose fit on the OBDII port so would drop signal intermittently on track. I bent all of the pins in opposing directions just SLIGHTLY to give it a tighter fit FWIW.

Not sure if you can use this data, but thought I'd attach.

Thanks, will review tomorrow when I get a chance!

Heck...I'm more curious to see what the lower cost IC's function...like the eBay bi-coolers. There is so much bro science and bad information out there that a thread like this one can be a legitimate help to someone deciding on what type of IC to get. So far...no one has really done what you are doing here.(y)

Thoughts- I've been tracking on this tune for almost 2 years and love it! After reading all the info about upgraded radiators, dsg, oil and aux coolers the results seem disappointing. I'll try CJM hood center vent next to see what improvements are made.

I... don't think I can work with this. 🤣

I'm not familiar with whatever you're using, but should be a way to export as a CSV somehow.
That's not how it looked on my end lol, but yeah, that would be kind of useless. I'll try again.

I see the issue. I was trying to attach the CSV & forum won't let you attach the CSV, but there was a txt file with the same name & I attached that.
Had to zip the CSV & attach.

Thanks! Will add to the spreadsheet in a bit but here are the snapshots I'll be using. Next time just add vehicle speed as well, but I was able to gauge the rough lap times (looks like 1:22s-1:26s) based on current gear since you're getting into 5th once per lap.

One of the best with regards to knock retard yet (granted this may or may not be relevant since most tuners numb them an unknown amount):

I run ECS's FMIC and I'm EQT stage 2. My thoughts were get the intercooler away from the radiator. Look forward to logging and seeing what actual results I got. It has for sure helped to stop the car from going into limp mode mid-session when the ambient temp is anything north of ~75ish (used to happen just about every session no matter the ambient temp). My last day out was a few weeks ago (I left the AP at home so could not log) and I noticed it pulling some timing in the later stages of the afternoon sessions (no limp mode, but would be down on power and even cut out intermittently on the one section of the track that is a steep uphill climb). I am excited to do some logs and share...but won't likely be till July now :(

My thoughts are airflow through the stack is the most important thing. Hood vents (and fender vents) were huge for mine and dropped temps a lot.

I personally think a FMIC with a stock location IC still in place (whether twin cooler or just not removed) means less through the stack.

All just arm chair engineering though, except I do have some very rough CFD that showed a large improvement in air flow with hood vents. I would need to dig it up for actual numbers though.
