My mother in law's Rav4 is broken down with a tranny issue... she JUST filed for bankrupcy and has almost zero credit options, she has very little money but needs a new vehicle...

She has one Honda dealer a ways away that will finance her if she brings 1500 dollars. They didn't say what car or anything...

I'm just trying to figure out if she would better off with a 2000 dollar car from a private party than a horrible financing/possible price gouging into a shitty car type situation.

So, the question is, you commute 75 miles each day to work and you need to buy a car and you only have 2000 and no credit, what do you buy?

Thank you all very much in advance for your thoughts/suggestions.

I think a small used Honda would be a very good choice.

mid 80's ford tempo... those things run FOREVER and can be had for a few hundred bucks..

of if she can get it.. mid 90's civic (unmollested) or mid 90's corolla...

but those are in high demand due to gas prices so she'll pay for it..

Mid 90's Galant's are pretty good too..
