Problem with start/stop system anyone?

Hi guys

Just wondering if this was ever solved or if anyone else had the same Problem?

I recently bought a VW 1.4 TSI highline (Swiss car but equivelant to the R line I think) with Start Stop.

Most of the time it works fine. Sometimes though, the start stop kicks in, and then when the foot Comes off the brake (it's an automatic) the engine tries to turn over but fails two or three times and sounds very "rough". Usually, it gets there eventually and moves away, sometimes though it totally Fails and Displays "start engine manually". Bit of a pain when at a green light and cars are going beserk behind you!

I'm taking it into VW here in Switzerland for a diagnostic. Just wondered if anyone had had the same Problem and could shed any light. It seems to happen most often when I'm sitting in a traffic jam and the S/S kicks in a number of times in short succession. The first few times are almost always fine.

Cheers!

Same issue

Hi did you ever sort the start stop issue you had - read your post and I am having exactly the same problems? It seems to Be intermittent and doesn’t show an error so vw haven’t even fixed it having been in as it doesn’t occur all the time. Any help appreciated

Same issue here too on my 2013 1.4 TSI DSG. I managed to capture it on video luckily. It only happens about 1 in 10 times.

- Pull up to some lights
- Car stop/start system shuts the engine off as expected and the auto-hold system put the green P indicator on as normal
- Press the accelerator to set off and the engine fails to start (You can see in the video it reached about 500 revs)
- Take foot off the accelerator completely and back on a second time and it starts and drives off without an issues

Any thoughts or anyone have a similar issue?

^^^ Jim: Hi. I'm not entirely sure that removing connector on the module that's on the negative battery terminal is a good idea. Yes, it will certainly will stop the SS function from activating, but the module (it's called the "battery monitor control module") is also involved in other electrical activities related to the battery - like regenerative charging and recording the SOC (state-of-charge) of the battery for long-term alternator charging.

The energy management function in the car uses this module to vary the battery charging profile according to the type of battery, it's age and the prevailing capacity in the battery at any time. Not sure what happens to energy management calculation if the module is not connected, but a vital piece of the data for the algorithm will be missing - which can't be good for the longevity of the battery (I reckon)

Well it hasn't changed anything for me in 70,000 miles. Except for getting rid of the annoying start/stop function. Nothing like sitting at a busy intersection for 3 minutes in Phoenix when it's 115 degrees and no AC.

I disabled auto stop/start on my Golf using a Kufatec dongle. It wasn't cheap, but worth every dollar !

I fitted one of these to my 2016 GTi and haven’t looked back,
http://www.4gochip.com/Remembers the last state of the S/S system (be that off OR on) and virtually presses the button when starting the car, can be switched off completely with a long press for when the car is in for service too! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/322352078637
Absolutely brilliant bit of kit, works perfectly,

and another option here,

Jim: Ok - if you say so. I was just repeating the official stuff from VW about the role of the battery monitor control module on MQB platform vehicles. Glad that you have clarified this for me ;)

I’d be inclined to take DV52’s advice on this sort of subject.

VW is just trying to get you to keep it enabled. The stuff they told you is bull.

So I guess you think that I'm lying. 70,000 miles of driving with it disconnected from the battery with no problems isn't enough proof for you? My dealer thought I was smart to figure out that it could be simply disconnected.

No, not at all, I have no idea how what you’ve disconnected works or does or doesn’t effect anything else, I have no opinion in that respect! just pointing out that DV52 has a very good grasp on how the systems and controllers work on these cars that’s all, I have no reason to doubt your knowledge of the subject.

The second one looks plug and play. Looks like it’s compatible with Golf 7, wonder if that includes the 7.5 Alltrack.

I bought mine before finding the second product, The plug and play option looks good, I’m sure they can make one that suits your alltrack,
I have the first one from 4gochip.com, despite what the manufacturer states, all 3 wires are connected behind the switch, I can provide info on which wires to connect to if needed, I think both versions are essentially the same but the 4gochip.com version is free worldwide shipping and lifetime warranty plus I can confirm it works, the P’n’P one does look like the best overall though!
