A 2005.5 Jetta TDI - great car, great fuel economy. Traded in for a 2010 GTI to get something a little more fun (must be my midlife crisis 
).
I test drove a 2010 Jetta TDI as well. The 2.0 TDI engine is quite an improvement over the 1.9 TDI that was in my car. Smooth and quiet, by diesel standards.
In the end the GTI won because of the more peppy and sporty feel.

2001 TT 225 Roadster..
My last car was a Stage II 2004 STI (it wasn't easy parting with her). It was very fast and I kind of miss the kick in the pants, but there are many things I like better about the MKVI. Really apples and oranges though. I really like the GTI so far. Its a blast to drive and really tight feeling.

2006 Dodge Charger a little over 400hp
Coming from a 99 M3...great car. However, the GTI is almost as much fun, much more practical, and actually better in many ways. Cars before the M3 included an 01 S4 (nice when it was not in the shop), 03 350 Z (fast but somewhat uninspiring) and an 06 TL (suprisingly powerful but still boring). The GTI may be my favorite as a complete package.
